Ben Harper, a singer, composer, and guitarist, was born in the dry and boring town of Pomona, California.

Growing up in a musically inclined family, Ben was surrounded by his father, who played the drums, his mother, who was a singer and guitarist, and his grandparents, who were guitarists as well. With multiple relatives owning music instrument stores, Ben was introduced to the guitar at a young age, picking it up for the first time at six years old and performing in front of his school at twelve.

His musical influences ranged from blues musicians like Son House and Skip James to Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan.
